NIGERIA: Integrated Oil and Gas Clinches Quality Certification

Integrated Oil and Gas Ltd, a key player in the downstream petroleum industry, has announced the achievement of ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System certification from the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON).
The ISO certification is an international standard that defines good management practices and aims at providing a global standard that spells out quality and trust.
The purpose of the certificate is to facilitate international trade by providing a single standard that is recognised and respected globally. It is a generic standard and is applicable to organisations in all areas of work.
Some of the areas are manufacturing, processing, servicing, printing, and forestry. Others are electronics, steel, computing, legal services, financial services, accounting, trucking, banking, and retailing among others.
The company stated in a release at the weekend that the certification process started in June 2011 when the company’s management commissioned a quality consultant (Cristal Service Ltd) to guide it through the process of establishing and implementing the ISO 9001:2008 management system.
To jump start the process, the consultant carried out gap analysis of the company’s processes, documentations, existing management system and practices, departmental activities as well as facilities with the view to identifying improvement opportunities that needed management’s attention.
Awareness briefings and courses were organised for staff members and 20 of them were  subsequently selected and trained on implementation and auditing courses as internal auditors and project drivers.
“During the period of two years, the company’s management system developed, established and maintained a robust quality policy and management systems that audited by both internal and external auditors. Quality manual, work processes, procedures and work instructions were produced and audited by both internal and consultant auditors against the ISO 9001:2008 standard requirements. 
After maintaining the management system for over one year, SON Auditors were invited to carry out readiness (pre-audit) and final certification audits. After the two audits, SON was satisfied that Integrated Oil and Gas has satisfied the requirement for the award of the certification to the NIS ISO 9001:2008 standard”, the statement read.
Another distinguishing thing that qualified the company for the award was its ability to consistently provide products that meet applicable regulatory requirements  and the company ability to continually meet changing expectations of her customers by establishing quality management system that conforms to the requirements of NIS ISO 9001:2008 standard.
Benefits of the certification, according to the company include framework for improvements; improvement on product reliability and efficiency; better process control and flow; better documentation of the processes and activities; greater employee quality awareness and improved skills and better understanding of customer expectations and needs.
