Kano State Governor, Alhaji Rabiu Kwankwaso, has presented a proposed budget of N219.2 billion to the state House of Assembly for the 2014 fiscal year.
 Kwankwaso also directed for free education for all from primary school up to the tertiary institution for the state indigenes, adding that the 2014 budget was tagged “Budget of Consolidation."



He said the budget was aimed at fulfilling the yearnings and aspirations of the people of the state and position the state at the fore-front among the comity of states in the country.

Speaking while presenting the budget to the assembly, Kwankwaso said out of the total amount, N70.6 billion would be for recurrent expenditure, while the remaining N148 billion would be for capital project.


The governor said: “The 2014 budget is lower than the 2013 budget by N19.2 billion.
"The state government would ensure that all the ongoing projects are completed during the year hence the decision to dedicate 90 per cent for the completion of ongoing projects and 10 per cent for new projects.”


According to him, education received the lion share with an allocation of N20.8 billion, pointing out that of the state government had concluded arrangement to give free education to all indigenes of the state. 


"The recurrent expenditure represents 32 per cent of the total budget while the capital expenditure represents 68 per cent and let me emphasise here that our administration does not contemplate abandoning any ongoing project in view of the huge resources already committed,”
he said.

The Speaker of the assembly, Hon. Gambo Sallau, pledged that the assembly would go through the document with a view to ensuring its speedy passage.

He commended the governor for the various development projects he had executed in the state within the last two and a half years.
