Federal Government has restated its readiness to revamp, the Project Development Initiative (PRODA), Enugu in order to realise its core mandate of piloting initiatives that would help in promoting the nation's drive towards self-reliance in science and technology.
Speaking during the maiden visit of the governing board of PRODA at the organisation’s corporate headquarters in Emene, Enugu, the Board Chairman, Chief Emmanuel Mbaka, said government appreciates the role of science and technology in building a strong economy hence the renewed initiative to revitalise the establishment.

He said the mandate of the establishment, which is to play a strategic role to accelerate the growth of the nation's industrial enterprises through indigenous research and development for the purpose of enhancing the capacity and capabilities of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the country was yet to be realised.
He said the board would therefore critically assess and evaluate the human capital, material and financial resources available for the attainment of the lofty objectives, stressing that the only way for the mandate to be realised was for them to have firm understanding of the environment and the organisation.

"We assure that no stone will be left unturned in this process. There may be casualties, survivors and successors during our total re-engineering, methodical implementations and experimentations both on material, human and financial resources to actualise revitalisation. We are poised to return PRODA to glory," Mbaka said.

He said the board would also probe into what the agency has been doing in terms of research and Pilot Plant Development especially in the areas of job and wealth creation, poverty alleviation and energy utilisation, adding that they would ensure that the operational activities and PRODA projects are integrated into the Transformation Agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan.
The board chairman said from his findings during the tour of the various departments and workshops,  once the necessary potentials are tapped, the institute is capable of self-financing through the production of Electric Porcelain Insulators for PHCN, Alcohol Distillation Plant, Generators, Block Moulding Machines, Welding Machines,  Stabilisers, Refractory Bricks for Arch Furnaces, plates, cups and trays.

He said the facilities were very much in high demand for the end users, adding that the production of porcelain insulators alone would encourage the government to barn the importation of same while PRODA would be made to take over the whole supplies for PHCN for utilisation and installation.

He also challenged research officers to prove their worth as the board will be evaluating all research works from time to time, adding that hard working staff would be compensated in order to motivate them to perform more effectively and efficiently.
"New research projects and results shall be expected henceforth to be in line with modern economic realities," he said while expressing appreciation to President Jonathan for giving members of the board, the opportunity to serve the nation in that capacity
