The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), All Nigeria People's Party (ANPP) and Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) have asked President Goodluck Jonathan to shelve any plan to impose a state of emergency on some of the northern states worst hit by the Boko Haram crisis.
The three opposition parties which have expressed their intention to merge under one political platform, the All Progressives Congress (APC), said that any such move can only be aimed at giving an undue advantage to the PDP instead of helping to end the crisis.
In separate statements issued Sunday, the parties said any plan that will oust democratic structures in the affected states, will not augur well for the country.
In a statement issued on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said if the imposition of emergency rule on the most affected states is the only viable option left for President Jonathan to tackle the crisis, then he should step down.
