Young Man Kidnapped As A Child Is Emotionally Reunited With His Parents 20 Years Later

This is the emotional moment a man who was abducted as a young child was finally reunited with his family – 20 years later.

Sun Wei was just 4-years-old when in 1995 he was kidnapped as he walked home from kindergarten in Liangshan Yi, Sichuan Province.

He was given sweets by a stranger and led into a van.

His father Sun Zhenghua, who was 25 at the time, reported the abduction to police.

But as he and his wife didn’t have a single picture of their son to issue, it made it almost impossible for the incident to be processed.

In the meantime, Sun Wei was taken to the city of Jieyang, in Guangdong Province, and sold to a couple who already had a seven-year-old daughter.

Sun Wei recalled: “I was taken to a family and given a new name, Xiaochuan, and my birthday was changed to November 6, 1993.

"When I first arrived at my foster parents, I couldn’t understand a word of the local dialect,” he added.

Sun Wei said he was always acutely aware that he had been kidnapped.

“All the neighbours knew. My foster parents never mentioned it, but they never knew that I knew the truth,” he said.

Back home, his worried biological father decided to leave his wife Peng Lianhui in charge of family affairs and set off on a journey across the country.

He began working odd jobs in dozens of provinces, hoping to find Sun Wei in one of them. But he was unsuccessful.

“I stayed in one city for about one month – no more than two – before moving on to the next,” he said.

“But police and rescue shelters all refused to help me because I didn’t have a picture of my boy – they thought I was lying,” he added.

Zhenghua returned home and had two more children with his wife. But the couple never gave up hope of one day seeing their boy again, and registered their DNA with Chinese missing persons authorities.

In the end, however, it took a step from Sun Wei himself to set things in motion.

Having quit school at 14-years-old to work in Shenzhen, Sun Wei was finally persuaded by his friends to register his DNA in the same missing persons database.

Authorities quickly found a match to a similar claim filed by Sun Wei’s parents, and the long-lost relatives were brought together once more in a tearful reunion.

Sun Wei said of his decision to finally inform authorities: “Although I always knew I was ‘taken’, I just did not have it in me to do it at the time.”

“As for how my life will be from now on, it’s very difficult to say. I haven’t made any decisions yet – many things aren’t as simple as they seem,” he added.

INDIA: Police detain men after rape of four year old girl

0 0
Read Time:43 Second

Indian police on Monday detained two men in connection with the rape of a four-year-old girl who was found unconscious by her parents near railway tracks in New Delhi.

Vijay Singh, a senior police officer investigating the case, said the girl was raped and beaten with stones on Thursday.

"We are questioning the men in our custody and trying to help the victim's father obtain best medical care for the child," Singh said, adding that the victim lived in a slum with her parents, both working as daily wage earners.

The gang rape and murder of a student in 2012 in the capital led to protests and tougher anti-rape laws but incidents of rape have not dwindled, police said.

More than 1,000 cases of rape have been recorded by the Delhi police this year.

Read Time:52 Second

The  wreckage of the Indonesian twin-turboprop aircraft carrying 54 people, which lost contact with air traffic control on Sunday in the remote, forested eastern Papua region, has been found.

According to Yahoo News, "Officials said the wreckage was spotted about 12 kilometers (7 miles) from Oksibil, and Henry Bambang Soelistyo, the chief of the National Search and Rescue Agency, said search and rescue teams were preparing to try to reach the crash site by air and foot."

The leader of the rescue operation team, Soelistyo  said "Smoke was still billowing from the wreckage when it was spotted by a plane search."

He also added that "bad weather and rugged terrain were hampering efforts to reach the wreckage located in a mountainous area at an altitude of 2,600 meters (about 8,500 feet)."

The President of Indonesia, Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has called "for a moment of silence and pray for the crew and passengers ahead of our independence anniversary."

INDONESIA: Plane carrying 54 people goes missing

0 0
Read Time:2 Minute, 12 Second

An Indonesian twin-turboprop aircraft carrying 54 people lost contact with air traffic control on Sunday in the remote, forested eastern Papua region, the National Search and Rescue Agency (BASARNAS) said, with search efforts hampered by failing light as night falls.

"We can't confirm it has crashed. We can say contact has been lost with the plane," BASARNAS chief Bambang Soelystyo told Reuters by phone.

"It's a Trigana airline plane carrying 54 people including 5 crew. We are working to get more details."

According to the official BASARNAS Twitter account, the aircraft, a short-haul ATR 42-300 airliner belonging to Trigana Air Service and built in France and Italy, was carrying 44 adult passengers, five crew and five children and infants.

The plane was flying between Jayapura's Sentani Airport and Oksibil, due south of Jayapura, the capital of Papua province.

The agency's Jayapura office was coordinating the search, a separate tweet read as dusk set in the tropics.

Air transport is commonly used in Papua, Indonesia's easternmost province, where land travel is often impossible.

It was not immediately clear if search efforts would continue into the night in the densely forested mountainous region where the aircraft was traveling.

According to the Aviation Safety Network, an online database, the ATR 42-300 had its first flight 27 years ago. ATR is a joint venture between Airbus and Alenia Aermacchi, a subsidiary of Italian aerospace firm Finmeccanica .

Trigana has been on the EU blacklist of banned carriers since 2007. Airlines on the list are barred from operating in European airspace due to either concerns about its safety standards, or concerns about the regulatory environment in its country of registration.

The airline has a fleet of 14 aircraft, according to the airfleets.com database. These include 10 ATR aircraft and four Boeing 737 classics. These have an average age of 26.6 years, according to the database.

Trigana has had 14 serious incidents since it began operations in 1991, according to the Aviation Safety Network’s online database. Excluding this latest incident, it has written off 10 aircraft.

Indonesia has a patchy aviation safety record and has seen two major plane crashes in the past year, including an AirAsia flight that went down in the Java Sea, killing all on board.

That crash prompted the government to introduce regulations aimed at improving safety.

Indonesia's president promised a review of the aging air force fleet in July after a military transport plane crashed in the north of the country, killing more than 100 people

Couple takes wedding reception to refugee camp, feeds 4000 Syrians

Read Time:2 Minute, 27 Second

A Turkish bride and groom decided to share their joy on their wedding day by inviting 4,000 Syrian refugees to eat with them and celebrate in the southern Turkish city of Kilis.

Fethullah Üzümcüoğlu and Esra Polat, who got married in the province which is near the Syrian border last week, invited some of those refugees who have fled the country since the civil war which began four years ago.

The idea for sharing their special day with those less fortunate was that of the groom's father, Ali Üzümcüoğlu.

He told Serhat Kilis newspaper that he hoped others would do the same and share their wedding celebrations with their Syrian brothers and sisters.

'We thought that on such a happy day, we would share the wedding party with our Syrian brothers and sisters. We thought this was best done with Kimse Yok Mu who could provide a truck. God willing, this will lead to others doing the same and giving food to our Syrian brothers and sisters. For us, it was an interesting wedding dinner.'

The father also said he was glad that the couple began a new life 'with such a selfless action'.

Wedding guests shared food using trucks and those providing meals included the bride and groom themselves.

Hatice Avci, a spokesman for Kimse Yok Mu, told i100.co.uk that on Thursday, the couple pooled the money they had received from their families to host a party with the refugees who live in and around the city.

Kimse Yok Mu is affiliated with the Gülen movement, also known as the Hizmet (Service) movement, which is inspired by the teachings of Fethullah Gülen, a Turkish Islamic preacher in self-imposed exile in Pennsylvania.

The bride, Mrs Polat, told i100 what a wonderful experience it was and how happy she was to share the meal with those in need.

'I was shocked when Fethullah first told me about the idea but afterwards I was won over by it. It was such a wonderful experience. I’m happy that we had the opportunity to share our wedding meal with the people who are in real need,' she said.

According to local media, local singer, Reşit Muhtar, also helped out and provided food to the special guests.

The groom, Mr Üzümcüoğlu, said it was a great feeling to make others happy.

'Seeing the happiness in the eyes of the Syrian refugee children is just priceless. We started our journey to happiness with making others happy and that’s a great feeling,' he said.

And his father just might have got his wish.

His son said that his friends were so inspired, they hoped to do the same during their wedding celebrations.

China conducts air, sea drills

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 37 Second

China said it conducted air and sea drills in the South China Sea on Tuesday as it stakes an increasingly assertive claim to virtually the whole sea despite rival claims by neighbours.

The live-ammunition drills involved more than 100 ships, dozens of aircraft, information warfare units as well as the nuclear force, the state-backed China Military Online said in a report posted on the defence ministry's website.

It did not specify where exactly the exercises took place.

China claims most of the potentially energy-rich South China Sea, through which $5 trillion in ship-borne trade passes every year, and rejects the rival claims of Vietnam, the Philippines, Brunei, Malaysia and Taiwan.

The United States has called on claimants to settle differences through talks and has said its Pacific Fleet aims to protect sea lanes critical to U.S. trade with Southeast Asia and the oil-rich Middle East.

China rejects U.S. involvement in the dispute and its more assertive approach recently, which has included land reclamation and construction on disputed reefs, has raised tension.

The latest exercises focused on integrating information warfare systems with air and naval forces, as well as testing the combat effectiveness of new weapons and equipment, China Military Online said.

The military achieved "new breakthroughs" in several areas including engaging high-speed low-altitude targets, anti-submarine warfare and intercepting supersonic anti-ship missiles with surface warships, it added.

The drills used "all sorts of information technology tactics" to create simulated reconnaissance, surveillance, and early warning systems to detect air and sea targets in real time, it said.

The exercises were conducted in "a complex electromagnetic environment" involving many types of missiles, torpedoes, shells and bombs, it said.

China's navy on Saturday played down its recent exercises in the South China Sea and criticised other countries for "illegally" occupying islands and reefs.

Librarian replaces stolen $15m paintings with fakes

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 5 Second

Xiao Yuan, 57, admitted stealing and selling 125 works of Art for more than 34million yuan (£3.5million), between 2004 and 2011.

The former chief librarian stole 143 paintings worth more than £10million from a university gallery in China, and replaced them with fakes he had painted himself.

Prosecutors estimate that the 18 paintings that he kept were worth more than 70 million yuan (£7.2million).

Yuan used the money from the thefts to buy apartments and other paintings.

Defending himself, Yuan claims that the practice was incredibly common in the library of the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in south-east China, as he appeared in court today.

He claimed that he had already noticed fakes hanging in the gallery on his first day in the job, and that the handling of such paintings was insecure.

Incredibly, he claimed, someone else then stole the fakes that he had painted.

‘I realised someone else had replaced my paintings with their own because I could clearly discern that their works were terribly bad,’ Yuan told the Guangzhou People’s Intermediate Court.

He claimed that students and professors were able to borrow the invaluable paintings in the same way as library books, and that he had no idea who had replaced his fakes.

Read Time:55 Second

The number two man in the al Qaeda global hierarchy, Nasir al-Wuhayshi, has been reportedly killed in Yemen.

According to Yemeni national security officials, the al Qaeda Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) leader was killed in a suspected U.S drone strike on Friday, June 12 in Hadramout region.

Report says U.S authorities are still working to confirm al-Wuhayshi’s death.

But tweets from known AQAP agents reportedly said al-Wuhayshi has been martyred, adding that AQAP military commander Qasm al-Rimi, has been (also known as Abu Hureira al-Sanaani) appointed as al-Wuhayshi's replacement.

The man who was known as al Qaeda'scrown prince had appeared openly in a video that surfaced in April last year, he was seen greeting followers.

He said in a speech that he was going to hit America. "We must eliminate the cross..The bearer of the cross is America!"

al-Wuhayshi assumed command of AQAP in 2009. He had escaped a Yemeni prison in 2006, and had previously worked as Osama bin Laden's personal secretary.
