INDIA: Panchkula police on the lookout for drug racket kingpin

As many as 50 African nationals were operating the drug racket in Panchkula, luring youngsters to the illegal trade, revealed the investigations done by the Panchkula police.

The police are now on the lookout for the kingpin, a Nigerian based in Delhi.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Panchkula, Hamid Akhtar met the Delhi Joint Commissioner and other police officials in this regard.

“We sought their support to put an end to this menace. They have assured us of their full support,” said Akhtar.

The accused, hailing from Sierre Leone and Nigeria, had involved many youngsters, including girls in their twenties, in the trade, who worked on the field to avoid suspicion, said Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Crime, Pramod Kumar.

“In order not to reveal their place of residence, the African nationals met the youngsters in hotel rooms,” said a police official.

The youngsters were first given drugs at a party or a meeting and when they got addicted to these, they were involved in the trade, said the police.

As many as six persons, including a 20-year-old girl, an African national and four Nigerians, are in the police net for running drug racket in the town.

The police busted the gang with arrest of Sisse Malik, a native of Sierre Leone in West Africa, after he assaulted some policemen who had gone to attend to a complaint of a taxi driver outside a hotel in Sector 5. The girl, Amandeep, fled from the spot but was later arrested and the police got to know that they all were running drug trade. The police have already recovered contraband worth Rs 50 lakhs.

Many hotels on police radar

After it came to the light that youngsters were supplied the contraband in rooms booked at hotels, the police have sought details of foreign nationals who stayed at local hotels. Many renowned hotels (names being withheld by the Chandigarh Tribune) are on the police radar.

Two drug peddlers held
Two persons, not a part of the drug racket, were arrested for carrying habit-forming drugs late last night. Rinku, in his twenties, and Praveen, in his forties, were arrested for supplying drugs in Panchkula. Contraband worth Rs 50,000 was recovered from them.
