South Africa and Algeria played to a goalless draw at Orlando Stadium on Saturday, 12 January 2013.

Both sides were using the match to fine-tune their squads ahead of the Orange Africa Cup of Nations South Africa 2013 tournament that starts in six day's time (19 January).

Bafana Bafana head coach Gordon Igesund made several changes to his starting line-up, bringing on Dean Furman, Thulani Serero, Bernard Parker and Thabo Matlaba, who won the man-of-the-match award.

It was a match where Itumeleng Khune and Kagisho Dikgacoi celebrated their 50 th caps for South Africa.

Bafana Bafana had a great chance to take the lead in the first half when Katlego Mphela intercepted a back pass from Algeria's defence, and after beating his marker, saw his shot saved by the goalkeeper.

"I have no concerns at all; I believe we played well against very strong opponents so I am pleased with the performance. From what I saw, I think the fans are starting to believe again after our display. But I am the first to admit that there is still work to be done in the remaining six days before the start of the tournament," said Igesund.

"We had fantastic support today and I want to thank all the fans who really motivated us with their singing, we were just unfortunate not to get a win today. But I can finally see where we are going with this team and I believe we are on the right track."

In the tournament South Africa has been drawn against Cape Verde, who they face in the opening match on Saturday, 19 January at the National Stadium, Angola and Morocco.
