Ghanaian, Beninoise remanded over co-tenant, wife’s murder

LAGOS — An Ebute Metta Magistrates’ Court, yesterday, remanded a 50-year-old Ghanaian, Kwasi Abubakar, for allegedly killing a co-tenant.

Also, yesterday, another Ebute Metta Magistrate Court remanded a 36-year-old Beninoise, Daniel Gajo, at the Ikoyi Prisons, over the alleged murder of his second wife, Esther.

In the case involving the Ghanaian (Abubakar), Magistrate  O. A. Komolafe, ordered that the accused be kept behind bars, pending advice from the state Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP.

Abubakar, who resides at 54, Adebanjo St., Papa Ashafa in Dopemu area of Lagos, is facing a charge of unlawful killing.

The prosecutor, Insp. Frank Inah, had told the court that the accused allegedly killed a co-tenant, Mr Ranti Elegbede.

He said: “The accused went out and while returning home at night, he fell into the gutter. A shout for help by him attracted other co-tenants, including the deceased, who tried to rescue him.

“He turned to the deceased, gave him a blow and he fainted immediately. He was, however, confirmed dead at the hospital.”

According to Inah, the accused was infuriated by the deceased’s probing question:“Where are you coming from this night?”

The case was adjourned to July 17 for mention.

Beninoise remanded over alleged murder of wife

Meantime, an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court, yesterday, remanded  Daniel Gajo, at the Ikoyi Prisons, over the alleged murder of his second wife, Esther.

The Magistrate, Mrs M.O. Tanimola, ordered that the accused be detained, pending legal advice from the office of the state DPP.

According to reports, the plea of the accused was not taken by the court.

Gajo, who resides at Labora Village, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of unlawful killing and attempt to commit suicide.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Ishola Samuel, told the court that the accused killed Esther on June 4 at their residence. He said the accused stabbed his wife to death with a kitchen knife over her alleged infidelity.
