Ambassador of Ecuador, HE Leopoldo Rovayo, met on March 22 with the Director General/Chief Executive Officer of National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA), Sir Peter Idabor.
The Ambassador commenced by saying, ‘I’m thrilled to be here and I equally convey warm greeting from Ecuadorian people’.
Looking at the objective of the visit about Oil spillage he said the Director was doing an extraordinary jobfor preparedness, detection, and response to oil spillage in Nigeria that his country will continue to maintain their relationship with Nigeria people owing to the fact that Nigeria was there for Ecuador 1985 when their pipeline had problem.
As Oil producing countries of OPEC, Ecuador and Nigeria both face the challenge of Oil spillage and as such there is need to brain storm, work together and find practical solution to the problem, for sure we will share the knowledge that we had developed detecting the effects of hydrocarbons pollution using satellite images; our scientist Paul Arellano from Yachay University is working on it, Ambassador said.
Responding to Ambassador’s address, Sir Peter Idabor said he also extol Ecuador for its active engagement with the peoples of Nigeria and commended him for the inauguration of Press Centre at the Embassy and the strong interest to collaborate with the government in the detection of Oil spillage in the Niger-Delta region.
