benedict-onochieOctober 8, 2011 marked the 2011 New Yam festival/ Igbo Day in Finland. The Ambassador to the Nordic countries, His Excellency Benedict Onochie Amobi and her Excellency were actively present in the festival. Their participation was a big honor and boost to the festival that even the Igbos, Africans in general and Non-Africans were delighted and came to the believe that Igbos have really rich culture and are happy people.

As the Nigerian Ambassador to the countries Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Norway, he emphatically told the audience that 2011 New Yam festival/ Igbo Day Finland was one of the best functions he has attended since after his assumption of the Ambassadorial office. Even while he was making speech, the handwriting was boldly written on his face as an
outright confirmation of his interest and joy for identifying with his own people.

However, the summary of his speech dwelled so much on the importance of culture as the nucleus that form a particular people.
As a son of Igboland, he gave in a resume the perspective of Yam and New Yam festival among Igbos. According to him, New yam festival is regarded so high in Igboland and that it units Igbos wherever they live. He gave a thumb up to Igbo people in Finland when he accepted the fact that such gathering was a thing to write home about. In other words, that Igbos should keep such flag flying irrespective of where they find themselves.

Nevertheless, His Excellency Benedict Onochie Amobi unveiled the cotton of his administration when he registered his selfless-support to the betterment of Nigeria and Nigerians in Nordic countries. Thus, in his emphasis “my doors and ears are wide open round the clock to listen to your suggestion, advice and good plans on how to move Nigeria forward”. The learned gentle man ended his speech with the plans to inaugurate an Association of Nigerians in Finland.
