Acting Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu held direct talks in Washington on September 2.
“Such talks will resolve the problems neither in Palestine nor the Middle East,†Boroujerdi told IRNA in an interview published on Sunday.
The Democrats simply seek to regain Obama’s lost popularity in the run-up to the mid-term Congressional elections in the U.S., added Boroujerdi, the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee chairman.
Boroujerdi went on to say that Washington first pushed for the adoption of the 1929 Resolution against Iran at the UN Security Council and then arranged the so-called peace talks between the Palestinian Authority and the Zionist regime.
On June 9, the United Nations Security Council approved the fourth round of sanctions against Iran in a 12-2 vote. Brazil and Turkey voted against the resolution and Lebanon abstained.
MP Kazem Jalali has also said the compromise talks were a “show†to silence the criticisms leveled at Obama due to his failure to fulfill his presidential promises.
The U.S. president intends to “strengthen his position†before the elections, Jalali told reporters on Sunday.
“Such talks merely make the issue of Palestine more complicated,†added Jalali, the spokesperson of the parliamentary security committee.
A number of other MPs have criticized the U.S.-engineered compromise talks as well
