Zonal and State publicity secretaries of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have commended President Goodluck Jonathan for remaining focused in his commitment to transform the nation despite unwarranted attacks and distractions from the opposition.
This is part of the position adopted by the officers at a two day retreat for PDP Zonal and State Publicity Secretaries which ended in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State on Wednesday.
The retreat which was hosted by Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, further commended the President for his steadfastness to bringing a lasting solution to the lingering insurgency in parts of the country as well as his determination for a strong, united and peaceful Nigeria through the on-going national conference.
The officers however condemned the attitude of the opposition who have been engaging in frivolous and unnecessary grandstanding over critical issues that affect the welfare of the people and the future of the nation. They cited in particular, the refusal of the APC to participate in the national conference despite the over a decade-long campaign by its leaders for a national dialogue.
To ensure effective and authoritative anchoring of the publicity machinery of the party, the retreat recommended that the publicity secretaries should be integrated into the cardinal organs of the party. It also resolved that all publicity secretaries at different levels be empowered and properly positioned for an effective discharge of their responsibilities while calling on the national leadership to further organise similar retreats at other levels.
The publicity officers commended the National Chairman, Ahmadu Adamu Muazu on his emergence and applauded the firm steps the National Working Committee under his leadership has been taking to reposition the PDP even as they applauded the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Chief Olisa Metuh for convening the retreat, in addition to the proactive manner he has been handling the publicity of the party.
Resource persons at the retreat were former PDP National Publicity Secretaries, Prof. Rufai Ahmed Alkali, Hon. Emmanuel Ibeshi and Mr. Tony Caesar Okeke.
Others are the Chairman, Senate Committee on Works, Senator Ayogu Eze who also served as Chairman Senate Committee on Information, the Special Adviser to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe and his New Media counterpart, Reno Omokri,
