Nigeria Goal Hero Victor Obinna Guns For Victory In Tunisia

After grabbing a double against Tunisia on Sunday, the Inter ace says he is now looking forward to the Super Eagles winning in Tunisia…

Victor Obinna, who netted twice as Nigeria defeated the Harambee Stars of Kenya 3-0 in a 2010 World Cup qualifying match in Abuja on Sunday, has shifted his focus to the Eagles’ upcoming match against Group 2 leaders Tunisia, explaining that it is a fixture that Nigeria must win.

“Having scored two goals against Kenya, I will do my best to ensure we beat Tunisia in Tunis. We have to win this game because they are the biggest threat to our World Cup dream,” Obinna declared ahead of the June 20 match-up at the Rades Stadium.

“It was important that we won against Kenya as this has now prepared us better for the game in Tunis. We are ready to win.”

The former Chievo Verona striker converted a penalty after 72 minutes before firing home a blinder four minutes later to hand Nigeria an important victory over Kenya on Sunday.

He has great memories of playing against Tunisia. He opened scoring for the Eagles after just six minutes in a 2006 Africa Nations Cup quarter-final against the North Africans and was also on target in the sudden death penalty shootout, which Nigeria won 7-6 after the match was tied at 1-1 after extra-time.

The Carthage Eagles of Tunisia lead Group 2 with six points – two more than second-placed Nigeria. Mozambique have a point while Kenya are bottom of the standings with no points after two rounds of games.

In the meantime, Nigeria coach, Shuaibu Amodu, admitted that, despite his team’s big home win, Kenya gave the Eagles a good match in front of a capacity crowd at the Abuja National Stadium.

“It was a very difficult match,” revealed Amodu.

“Some players were a bit clumsy and released the ball late and our opponents just kept getting closer to the ball.

“We were jittery and the pressure was on me too, especially in front of this huge crowd. But we were confident we could do it with our experience and quality.”
