The Joint Consultative Forum(JCF), comprising academic staff union of Sokoto State  Polytechnic, Shehu Shagari College of Education and College of Legal Studies on  Friday embarked on  strike due to non- implementation of the Consolidated Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Academic Staff Salary Structure (CONPCASS) by the Sokoto State government.

The Forum of the three tertiary institutions in the state also resolved not to lift the suspension indefinitely, sequel to the expiration of the 18-days ultimatum given to the state government to respond to its demands. But the State Head of Service, Alhaji Bature Shinkafi, said the strike action embarked upon by the lecturers was ill-timed, warning that the state government would not hesitate to adopt "no work no pay" policy on erring staff.

Addressing newsmen in Sokoto on Friday, the Chairman of the Forum, Alkasim Yusuf Yabo, said the academic staff of the three institutions embarked on an industrial action due to the inability of the state government to respond to their demands since 2009. Yabo explained that the Forum had embarked on strike action for a month in 2013 but was prevailed upon by the state government to suspend it, lamenting that after a year and five months nothing was done.
