-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Welcome back! New Year, New Hope
My dear friends in Christ, ‘Time rolls on. The New becomes old and The Old becomes new again’. I think that it is not so proper for us to enter this New Year without at least spending some time, reflecting on our previous life experiences. A time like this is a moment for each of us to measure what he or she, as an individual has learnt so far, not just in the last twelve months, but also all through his or her life. As we take inventory of all our failings and shortcomings, we firmly decide, by making concrete resolutions to be better, stronger, more disciplined, more faithful, etc, in all that is good.

As the New Year dawns, let us bid farewell to the old years and welcome this year with optimism and trust. We do this by striving to put out of our minds past memories that perhaps are no longer useful or worthwhile. The New Year has a message for each of us. Part of this message is that we should make new beginnings and new starts in life; start afresh and be determined to put on attitudes that would make our environment more friendly; make pledges that will make people around us to smile and be happy; be resolved to know the value of time and utilise every second profitably (because as it is said ‘time is most precious’ ‘time never waits for anybody’); live every moment of our life for the realisation of our ideals and goals; avoid procrastination (knowing that ‘tomorrow’ may be too late or never come at all) idleness, gossiping, egoism, insensitivity, laziness and inertia.

I am sure that by doing the above, we will see the difference they will make in our lives and in the society in general, as we look forward for the glorious and brilliant future that awaits all of us. We thank God for giving us another chance this year to enable us strive for our salvation.

This past year, the Staff and Students of Blackrock College expressed such great love and compassion in favor of people in need. I thank you immensly for this charitable attitude. St Vincent De Paul fund raising was a success (2nd year 2,900euro, 6th year 5581euro, 3rd year 2950euro, 4th year 16,800euro, 4th year tuckshop 350eur, 5th year 1500euros and 43 Tuckshop 325euros).

As we celebrate the New Year, we give thanks to God for His blessings and ask for His guidance. We look with hope to the year ahead and the many new opportunities the future will bring. We remember and pray for the people of Kenya and Pakistan, that peace, love and unity my reign once more among them.

May the bright New Year and all future years also bring to you all and to all the members of your family, success, peace, prosperity and happiness. As we take stock of our past, let us plan and prepare for the future through Christ our Lord

In Prayer union.
Fr Hyacinth
School Chaplain.
