The former Governor of Imo State and one of the governorship aspirants in the December 8, 2014 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primaries,
Chief Ikedi Ohakim, on Sunday evening made what he called a’historical statement’ by drumming support for the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and the state PDP governorship standard bearer, Chief Emeka Ihedioha, in the forthcoming governorship election.

He urged all his supporters and the electorate in the state to cast their votes for Ihedioha, to redeem all the losses that the people of the state have suffered in the last three and a-half years under Chief Rochas Okorocha’s administration.

Ohakim scored 213 votes, less than Ihedioha’s 246 votes to come third in the primaries.

Addressing journalists and his supporters at his country home in  Okohia, Isiala Mbano local council the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Viola Onwuliri, Ohakim, accused the Imo State governor, Chief Rochas Okorcha, of plunging the state into a huge debt of over N200 billion.

He regretted that all his signature and iconic  projects which he initiated during his administration were abandoned, while over 100,000 metric tonnes of refuse are littered around various parts of the state among others.

He said, “After wide consultations with supporters, we have decided to give our support and backing to the  Ihedioha.”

Ohakim also urged the Imo electorate to cast their votes for President Goodluck Jonathan.

The ex-governor disclosed that he could not understand what Okorocha spent the N13.2 billion he left in the Imo State treasury on.

Speaking, Onwuliri decried the stance of Okorocha in allegedly brain washing Imo people by stating that the many federal government projects executed and ongoing, were state owned.

She urged them to take the truth and reject falsehood.
