The immediate past Chairman, Delta State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Peter Nwaoboshi, has denied claims that he has abandoned the mandate given to him on the platform of PDP to represent the people of Delta North Senatorial District at the Senate.

Nwaoboshi, who was reacting to media reports that he had dumped the PDP for another party to pursue his political ambition following the rancour that resulted during the conduct of the PDP primaries, told THISDAY on Saturday in Asaba that the information is not only misleading but a calculated attempt to smear his political image.

He said he is the duly elected candidate during the recent Senatorial primary election to represent Delta North Senatorial district in the forthcoming general election.

Nwaoboshi contested the election under PDP alongside other aspirants like Mrs. Mariam Ali and Hon. Pascal Adeguwe during the senatorial primary election that held in Cenotaph in Asaba, the Delta State capital and he was declared winner by   party officials.

He said “The information that I have decamped and abandoned my mandate is not correct, I do not know where they got that news from, I think it is the handiwork of my political detractors who wants to create confusion in PDP. I am the senatorial candidate for Delta North, I have been foundation member of PDP, I won the election.

“INEC has rectified me as the candidate for the election, if out of nine local governments, seven local governments results were counted and declared before everybody and I won, even if you combine the result of the other two local governments, the other contestant would not have been able to beat me, so I am very surprised that somebody will say that I have abandoned my party. I have been chairman of the party for seven years and foundation member, I cannot abandon my mandate to contest election on the platform of another party, it’s a very huge joke”.

THISDAY investigations revealed that Nwaoboshi was at government house, Asaba, venue of the inauguration of the Delta State PDP Campaign Committee.   The Chairman of the PDP in the state, Chief Edwin Uzor, who performed the inauguration announced Nwaoboshi as PDP candidate for Delta North Senatorial district.
