From his total emoluments of N43,230,871.44,  President Goodluck Jonathan paid N6,264,221.75 to the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) as tax between 2011 and 2013.

Details of the president’s tax returns submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) further showed that the president did not earn any other income besides his fixed income as president of the country in that period.

The income tax clearance certificate from FIRS was part of the president’s submission as presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The document indicated that the president’s source of income was “employment.”
The tax clearance which was stamped and received in the Legal Services
Department of INEC, stated: “This is to certify that Dr. Jonathan Ebele Goodluck (Presidency) has paid income tax assessment for the past three years.”

Similarly, the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) has cleared the Vice-President, Alhaji Namadi Sambo, to contest the 2015 presidential election.

The letter of clearance from the CCB, as submitted to INEC, stated: “This is to certify that Namadi Sambo, the Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, has never breached any of the code of conduct for public officers as contained in fifth schedule of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999), and he has been declaring his assets as and when due.

“He is, therefore, cleared to contest the 2011 presidential election.”
