NIGERIA: Police Kill Two Robbery Suspects

The police in Warri, Delta State have shot and killed two armed robbery suspects believed to be operating with commercial tricycle in Warri and Effurun/Okpe metropolis.

Two other members of the alleged robbery gang identified as Oghenero Eghagbere, resident at 5, Okoloba Street, Effurun, and Michael Aguwaneshe of 13, Kpokpogri Street, Off Adeje Road in adjoining Okpe town were arrested, a statement by the state police command spokeswoman, Celestina Kalu, confirmed on Tuesday.

She said the police also recovered a locally made gun and the tricycle with registration number AK 027 QB, reportedly used by the bandits when they ran into a unit of the “police Rapid Response Squad along Ogunu road, by Zenith Bank Warri” at about 9.50p.m. on Monday night.

Since the banning of the commercially-operated motorcycles in major towns and cities in Delta State in 2012, the use of tricycles by some criminals have reportedly been on the increase especially in Asaba, Abraka and Warri/Effurun metropolis.
