Boko Haram: Minimah Hints of Major Army Shake Up

 Following persistent threats to the nation’s security by the terrorists Boko Haram sect, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt. Gen. Kenneth Minimah yesterday hinted that the Nigerian Army would soon be reorganised to enable it effectively carry out the task of protecting the territorial integrity of the nation.

Minimah said the reorganisation had become necessary because the Nigerian Army intended to stop at nothing in ridding the nation of terrorists and their activities.

Minimah stated this in Calabar during his familiarisation visit to army formations and units under the 82 Division, Nigerian Army, Enugu.

Addressing men and officers of the 13 Brigade Nigerian Army in Calabar, Cross River State, Minimah said, “The army is ready to defeat terrorism and insurgency in the country.
“First and foremost, we will reorganise the army, renew our doctrine and then do our training with the new equipment we have.

“I have seen some competence in battle worthiness; and also the administrative competences have been very exemplary.”

Minimah said the Nigerian army would eventually defeat the terrorist “who have been making life difficult for Nigerians in some parts of the country.”

The COAS who also visited the Amphibious Training School of the Nigerian Army in Calabar, said the essence of the visit to the military formations was to assess the combat readiness and administrative efficiency of the soldiers under the 82 Division.

He said the Nigeria Army would continue to give full motivation to its men and officers that were currently fighting to maintain peace and the territorial integrity of the nation.
The COAS urged members of the public to support the federal government and the Nigerian Army in the fight against terrorism and insurgency in some parts of the country.

While in Calabar, Minimah paid a courtesy call to the State Governor, Senator Liyel Imoke, in Government House.

Speaking during the visit, Minimah said he was in the state on tour of army formations under the 82 Division.

Minimah said it was customary for him to visit the governor to enable him know the purpose of his visit while in his domain.

He stated that the cordial relationship between the government and people on one hand, and the army on the other, should continue.

In his remarks, Imoke said officers and men of the Nigerian Army had exhibited great capacity and integrity to ensure they contribute to the security of the nation.

Imoke said they had not only supported the present administration in the country, but have remained loyal to the nation.

The Governor stated that the state was proud to work with the Nigerian army to ensure that peace and security was maintained for its development.

Imoke told Minimah that his tour of army formations would also provide him with the opportunity to understand the needs of officers and men who were posted to serve military in formations in the state.
