Man, 29, docked for varsity admission racketeering

AKURE — A 29-year-old man, Zeblon Henry, charged with fraud was yesterday, arraigned before a chief magistrate’s court in Akure, Ondo State.

The accused, who resides in Shagari Village, Akure, is alleged to have takenN120,000 from one Owolabi Sunday under false pretence.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Akeem Durojaiye, told the court that the accused committed the offence at about 1 p.m. on June 13 at 2nd Avenue, Shagari Village, Akure.

Durojaiye said that the accused collected the money from Sunday under the pretence that he would provide admission for him at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

He said that the offence contravened Section 419 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol.1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

The accused, who had no legal representation, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The magistrate, Mr Adebisi Daomi, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 and one surety in like sum.

He ordered that the surety must be a responsible citizen of the state, and adjourned the case till August 8 for hearing.
