Speaker of Sokoto State House of Assembly, Alhaji Lawali Zayyana, Friday urged the Federal Government to devise new strategies in the fight against insurgency in the country.

Speaking with journalists in Sokoto, Zayyana said it had become necessary for the Federal Government to take drastic measures in tackling the menace of insurgency in the country.
According to him, the Federal Government should as a matter of urgency, adopt concrete measures and counter terrorism strategies in curbing the level of insecurity in the country.

The Speaker underscored the need for the authorities to adopt modern and sophisticated ways of fighting terrorists in order to curb the ugly trend.

He said to this end, sophisticated weapons should be provided to all the security agencies in the fight against insurgency in the North.

Zayyana also harped on the improvement of the welfare and working conditions of all the security operatives so as to bring out the best in them.

"If we want the best to come from the security operatives, we must prepare to assist them in the discharge of their constitutional duties.

"The truth of the matter is that, if the nation expects the best from them, decent barrack accommodation and welfare of security operatives should be given priority by the federal government", he said.

He also called for effective information sharing and intelligence gathering among the security agencies in confronting the menace of insurgency in the country.

Zayyana said it was only by doing so, that terrorism would be curbed to a very large extent in the polity.

The Speaker urged Nigerians to continue to provide useful intelligence to the security agencies to enable them combat terrorism in the country.

"Nigerians should not leave the security agencies alone in the fight against insurgents. Our collective efforts will enable the security agencies to apprehend those responsible for terrorist activities in the country", he added.
