13-year-old Zahrau, has narrated how her father forced her to execute a suicide bombing mission in Kano recently.
Kano State police commissioner Adenrele Shinaba said the young girl was arrested on the day of the twin bomb blasts at Kwari market in Kano.
The teenage girl, who was paraded by Kano Police command and the Department of State Services in Kano yesterday, said: “My mother and I were taken to Boko Haram members in the bush by my biological father, whom I believe has been a member, though not to my knowledge. And since then, we have remained under the custody of Boko Haram.”

According to her, though they lived in Kano at Dawanau area before her father took them to Baluchi State, their hometown was in Damaturu, Yobe State.
Zahrau said that there were armed men of different racial backgrounds in the bush, which was surrounded by armed men.
“It was days ago that they called on me and asked me whether I should do (Istishadiyya), that is, commit suicide for the sake of getting reward in the hereafter. I told them I wouldn’t but they threatened to shoot me if I failed to abide by their request of wearing explosives to kill people.
“Afterwards I accepted to wear the explosives, among other two female colleagues. We left Baluchi and arrived in Kano on December 10. Our guide engaged in a series of phone call before we arrived in Kano and we found a tricycle waiting for us. He picked the three of us to Kwari market where the mission was to accomplished,” she narrated.
Zahrau added that, together, they had planned to detonate their explosives at different points, but she couldn’t detonate hers because the first explosion affected her as she sustained injuries.
As a result of the injury, Zahrau said: “I ran into the streets and stopped a commercial tricyclist who took me to Dawanau area where I lived with my parents in the past. I met only women in the area because their husbands were not at home. Later a passerby advised us to go to hospital. We heeded his advice and went to hospital. I was receiving treatment when the tricycle driver found my explosives vest, which I had dropped in his tricycle, and brought it to the hospital, claiming it was mine.”
At that point, she said, the soldiers took her away.

Military foils bomb attack at Gombe checkpoint
Vigilant soldiers on Tuesday foiled an attempt by a suicide bomber to detonate some explosives at Bajoga, in Gombe State, just as others raided some terrorists’ hideouts in Kano State.
Despite the recent victories recorded by the troops against the terrorists in flushing them out of some towns and villages in Borno and Adamawa states, yet there have been pockets of terror attacks, especially through suicide bombings in Gombe and Yobe states.
But, according to a statement issued by the Defence Headquarters by its director of information, Major General Chris Olukolade, one of such was foiled at a military checkpoint at Bajoga where the suicide bomber hit a military Amoured Personnel Carrier (APC).
“A suicide bomber who rammed into a military checkpoint in Bajoga, Gombe State yesterday (Tuesday), failed to achieve his mission. His attempt to escape also failed as he was brought down by vigilant soldiers when he tried to flee after hitting a military APC with his IED-laden Honda car. The explosives which failed to detonate have been evacuated and handed to the police,” the DHQ stated yesterday.
Speaking further, he said, “Also in Kano, security forces raided the terrorists’ hideout in Nasarawa Local Government Area leading to the arrest of bomb making experts who are already helping in the investigation into activities of bombers lately. Officers believe that the efforts will yield useful clues.”
Meanwhile, in a bid to outsmart the terrorists in the ongoing Christmas celebration, troops deployed in all locations have been directed to sustain the tempo of operations all through the festive season and to ensure that the intention of terrorists to attack civilian targets is frustrated.
